Sculpture Shock award showcases site-specific artists

With Cornelia Parker and Sarah Kent, Grey Coat Art teacher, Clare Burnett, spent yesterday selecting the Sculpture Shock award winners. Sculpture Shock is a residency and pop up exhibition offered to site specific artists by the Royal British Society of Sculptors. Artists are given the opportunity to make work in non-gallery spaces and to work for three months in a London studio developing the work. The winners this year are Alexander Costello who will make work for a boat which will travel through London, Patrick Lowry who will make work for the subterranean space of the Horse Hospital in Bloomsbury, and Joanna Sands who will show in the Museum of Immigration and Diversity near Brick Lane.

If you are interested in finding out more about site-specific work the Sculpture Shock website www.sculptureshock.rbs.org.uk has examples of artists’ work as well as a blog with articles and links.
