Although small, Alphabet soup is a captivating exhibition. It is an exhibition which explores the way in which reading can draw you into another world and capture your full attention, making you oblivious to everything else. It reminds you how the experience of reading and interpreting a book is a very personal one.
Willem Weismann was the winner of the East London painting prize 2015, and is full of brightly coloured, detailed paintings, the kind that you have to take a lot of time to look at, so that you don’t miss anything.
Weismann says he used his paintings to draw out similarities between books and painting- both an increasing rarity in the digital age where everyone just uses their devices, and everything is becoming virtual.
