Key Stage 5 – A-level

AS/A2 level Art and Design

Students who study Art A-level at the Grey Coat Hospital spend the first year broadening and deepening their understanding and skills.  They visit galleries, attend workshops and develop their own projects. In the summer term of year 12 they start working towards Component 1 of the A-level, their Personal Investigation.

Exam board: AQA
Specification: Fine Art
2 units of work in the A level course.
Component 1 Personal investigation (60%)
Component 2 Externally set task (40%)
Exhibition May in year 13

Special Requirements/other Information:

Minimum grade B at GCSE Art and English

The key to success in the A course is being enthusiastic and dedicated, having sound observational skills and an open mind, and being able research independently, work consistently, reviewing and improving work as projects progress.

Every year our A level students go on to Foundation Courses at London Art colleges such as the Prince’s Drawing school, Kingston University, University of the Arts (London College of Communication, Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Colleges of Art and Central St Martins) Working Men’s College in Camden and Kensington and Chelsea College.
